College News:

2014

  • The Limerick Institute of Technology

A huge THANK YOU must be given to Dr Alan Kavanagh and all the student members of the Limerick Institute of Technology Outdoor Club (LIT OC) Since 2005 the Outdoor Club has been fundraising annually for DEBRA Ireland and to date they have raised €11,500 for us. This year they are at it again for DEBRA and are holding bag packs, bucket collections and selling their specially designed DEBRA Ireland hoodie. A massive thank you to one an all and our heartiest congratulations on celebrating your 10th anniversary last year!!

2012

  • The Institute of Technology, Tallaght.

As part of the Advertising and Marketing Communications course, students were required to plan and create an event. They organised a Retro Sports/fun day, which took place in the college in April. The day consisted of sports events like ‘tug of war’ and three legged race and all the games that remind people of when they were in primary school, stalls with candy floss and penny sweets and all the elements of a community fun day. The day was a huge success raising an incredible €1,137.00 for DEBRA Ireland.

2009

  • LIT Outdoor Club and Built Environment

They’re at it again! The students from LIT, in particular the Outdoor Club and Built Environment, have managed to raise over €3,000 again this year for DEBRA Ireland. The LIT Outdoor Club held bucket collections and sold their stylish hoodies which are sponsored by the Lahinch Surf School and raised an amazing €2,000 while the Built Environment organised the LIT Built Environment Ball which raised over €1,000.

A special mention must go to Dr. Alan Kavanagh, Declan Furey, Shane O’Neil and surf legend John McCarthy, Lahinch Surf School for their continuous support. Cheers guys.

  • IT Tallaght

Thanks so much to the Culinary Arts Students for raising €160 for DEBRA Ireland, your support is much appreciated guys, well done!

2008

  • DIT Rag Week

DEBRA Ireland was delighted to be part of the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) Rag Week 2008 which was a huge success raising €20,000 during the week.

The week kicked off on Monday, 25th February 2008 in Temple Bar, with students dressing up in a variety of fancy dress costumes such as butterflies, Spongebob Squarepants, Superman, a Venom and even an old school Bananaman to name but a few. The rest of the week was followed by Father Ted Quizzes, the Christy Moore Tribute night and students belting out the songs during Karaoke in Shine. This was all before the students stomachs were put to the test during the Iron Stomach Challenge, which had to be seen to be believed!

We would like to thank everyone who took part in the week and had lots of fun while raising money for DEBRA Ireland.  A special thanks goes to Bodkins, the living room and Shine who let us use their venues. To all the DIT SU staff and students thank you for all you support and for making the week such a huge success.

  • NCI Fashion Show

On Friday the 16th November 2007 the National College of Ireland (NCI) Students Union hosted an exclusive fashion show in aid of DEBRA Ireland.

The event took place in the foyer of the NCI College, IFSC with the night packed with excitement and entertainment. The fashion on the night ranged from glamorous pieces from A-Wear, Blacktie, Massimo, Cyan, Pilgrim, Savida Dunnes Stores, Gap, United Colours of Benneton, Club Denim and New Look all modeled by NCI students.

Not only did the students put on a great fashion show, they also entertained guests by giving a fantastic dance performance including hip hop and breakdancing during the interval.

DEBRA Ireland would like to send our sincere thanks to all the students who participated on the night. The show was a huge success and raised a total of €3,400.  DEBRA Ireland would also like to thank Pilgrim for their generous raffle prize donations and goodie bags.
