COVID-19 – Community and voluntary supports

The Community call was announced on 2nd April by the Tánaiste Simon Coveney and national and local Government representatives. Its purpose, to help communities across Ireland to cope with the unprecedented threat of the spread of COVID-19. It involves the use of local authorities to co-ordinate a nationwide volunteer effort to meet the needs of those most vulnerable in Irish society. Including those living with EB. All counties have designated Community Outreach Champions (COC).

The wheel have produced an interactive map and website to help identify your local community champions along with local non-profit organisations, who are participating in the CCO initiative. To access this service please find your local champion and call the number allocated to them.

Some services available from this initiative include:

  • Shopping collection and delivery
  • Prescription collection and delivery

Guidelines for safe shopping during the COVID-19 pandemic have been developed by the Chartered institute of Environmental Health, the Environmental Health Association of Ireland and the Irish Global Health Network.
